The Mummy Clique

Don’t you hate it when you walk into a room and everyone looks up at you?

That happened to me today.

This week was my daughters first baby sensory class. At 4 1/2 months old we feel as if we have been on the waiting list forever.
I can see why now.
The class is full of the ‘mummy clique’ parents.

“The Mummy Clique”

These are all mummy’s that have been before, probably since the week their babies were born.

And yet here they are starting the classes all over again.
No wonder there is a never ending waiting list as you will never get onto the course.
Or if you do your baby will be too old for the 0-6 month class and so you start all over again with the 6-12 month classes.
The town I live in has about 23,000 residents, and this is the only baby sensory class so I feel it’s a bit unfair that the same parents keep signing up to the same blocks of classes over and over again.
Not letting others get a look in. But then this is the mummy clique. They attend all the other baby groups locally. As one mummy told me.
“We haven’t seen you around before and we get out and do some group or play everyday”
I really felt like an outsider from the moment I walked in until the very end. But my daughter really enjoys sensory stuff so I’m doing it for her.
It would have been nice to have felt more welcomed, I don’t want to join the ‘inner circle’ as that is not my type of thing.
I felt so out of place with the singing and signing as I knew nothing.
To be honest the teacher never helped as she just said we do the same song every week so you will soon catch up.
Am I being wrong in thinking that it was a new set of classes, so expected for us all to be taught from scratch?
But then I’m not in the mummy clique so everyone else just carried on. There’s me trying to watch my baby and the teacher at the same time learning all the hand signs.
I know how beneficial baby sensory classes can be for babies, so I’m determined to make the most out of these classes for my daughter.

You should have seen her face when the light show came on. Moments like that are very precious and so worth me putting up with the ‘mummy clique’.Maybe the next class will be better…
