How Can We Create a Bright Future for Our Children?

Since becoming a parent I have often thought about baby girl’s future. How can we create a Bright Future for our children? We have been set a challenge by Unilever called #brightFuture to discover little things as a family we can do to change the future for the better.

Unilever products - Helping create a bright Future for our children

At the heart of the Unilever brightFuture initiative is the goal to unite communities and encourage small changes in everyday life that have a positive impact on the world.

Here are some of our little things we have changed to help make our world a better place and to shape a bright future:

  • Turning the tap off when brushing teeth
  • Recycling
  • Re-using boxes and bottles/jars
  • Composting fruit and veg peelings
  • Turning the TV off and not leaving it on standby
  • Remembering to turn off lights when leaving a room
  • Meal Planning, so we don’t buy food to waste.
  • Only use reusable bags

The initiative from Unilever focuses on small changes that can make big differences in the world.

I love the fact that they have helped 482 million people to improve their health and hygiene, including through hand washing, improving self-esteem and oral hygiene. This is through their Sustainable Living Plan.

One of the Unilever products has been helping us think about how we can use it to help contribute to living in a more sustainable way. We have been using the Persil non-bio to wash at lower temperatures and we could use less water as well. This is great for educating children on how a little difference like lowering the temperature on the washing machine can make a big difference.

From the Unilever survey:

Persil has backed a global initiative ‘Learning for Tomorrow’ partnering with UNICEF to help give children in some of the world’s toughest areas the opportunity of a quality education

The Domestos bleach can be used to clean the bathroom providing clean and hygienic spaces for our children.

From the Unilever survey:

Domestos that has committed to helping 25 million people gain improved access to a toilet by 2020. Access to clean sanitation can protect people from preventable diseases, reduce mortality rates, help reduce school dropout rates and improve quality of life.

What are your ideas for living a bright future?
