There are lots of key factors to think about and many ways you can get more from your installation especially in this gorgeous weather that we are having at the moment.

A beautiful garden is one of the top priorities for most homeowners. A brilliant back garden can add a whole new dimension to the property. In many cases, it’s the key to making a house a home. While there are many features that contribute to the overall charm of a garden, there’s no doubt that a decked area has become one of the most popular.

But when it comes to choosing a deck or patio, you’ll be faced with many decisions. The most important element, however, is selecting a material. In recent years, there has been a growing trend for composite decks. These are essential decks that are produced through a combination of wood and plastic materials.

There are good and bad points for making this choice, although I personally think the positives shine through. If you do take this option, though, the most important thing is that you see maximised results. Make these considerations, and you should be just fine.

Colour

A decking area adds flexibility and practicality to the entire garden. It can be a crucial addition to encourage increased time in the yard too. But it most definitely needs to look the part if you want to gain the full benefits of making this upgrade.

The installation of a deck will completely alter the entire DNA of your garden. As one of the central features, you need to ensure it blends in with the other items already situated in the yard. Colour is unquestionably the most pivotal aspect as far as aesthetics are concerned. Experts at TimberTech can discuss a multitude of different options regarding colour and finish. In turn, this should give you the best chance of finding a deck that suits your home and requirements.

You can always change other aspects to accentuate the vibe that your new deck offers. Nonetheless, requiring less work will allow you to enjoy your deck to the fullest far sooner.

Installation

For many homeowners, the added lifespan of composite decking is a major factor in the decision. Not only does the longevity lead to increased value for money. But it also removes the hassle of repairing or replacing the product sooner than is needed.

However, those benefits can only be felt when the product is installed in a suitable manner. Many homeowners will go down the DIY route, which is fine. If you have the skills and tools to install the deck properly, then it’s a great way to save money. On the other hand, making mistakes will result in additional work being required. In the long run, this could end up costing more money than choosing a professional in the first place.

Apart from the cost, a poor installation will reduce the level of enjoyment that the deck brings. This will slowly eat away at your enthusiasm too. I’m not telling you whether to hire an expert or do it yourself. All I know is that the only solution is the one that brings the right result.

Treatment

In many ways, a composite deck requires less maintenance than other options on the market. Of course, this is a huge benefit for anyone that hasn’t got the time (or is just lazy). But while the maintenance may be minimal, those aspects still need attending.

Let’s face it; most aspects of the garden require some work to keep the space looking great all year round. The most important element of treating the deck is to clean it effectively. To do this, sweep away dust and debris and make sure the deck is dry. Using a specialist cleaning product like Corte Clean, you should then treat the deck one area at a time.

The best method is to let the product sit for a few minutes before scrubbing it clean. Following this, a quick rinse should get leave the deck sparkling clean. Aside from the cleaning aspects, your main goal is to look for early signs of damaged slats. Quick detection and action should reduce the cost of repair greatly. Invest in a decent decking oil for regular sprucing up, and it should shine for years.

Furniture

Composite decks tend to be less vulnerable to rotting. But it doesn’t mean they are resistant to all types of damage. The mixture of plastic and wood is often easily scratched. Therefore, it’s best to make furniture choices based on those factors.

Given the immense popularity of composite decking, finding suitable garden furniture isn’t difficult. When looking at a showroom, explain your fears to the salesperson, and they should point you in the right direction. In truth, a wide selection should still be available. If all else fails, rubber decking mats are a great way to offer greater protection.

Another key element to consider is the practicality. If you are planning to use this space in the evening time, it is worth investing in a suitable heater. Likewise, you should add garden lighting to the overhead coverage and the lawn. After all, if you don’t feel comfortable on the deck, you will not use it. Limiting your time would prevent you from enjoying the space to the max. Do not let this become an issue.

Build It High

It’s not always possible in every garden. However, if it is possible to have a raised deck, this is the option you should take. For starters, it can reduce the dangers of flooding and other natural damage. But more importantly, it adds a sense of grandeur to the whole project.

Looking down over your garden makes it feel superior. Whether it’s looking out at your flowerbeds or water features doesn’t matter. Meanwhile, it offers a barrier to keep the space separated from BBQs or any games that the kids may be playing.

Installing steps is easy, and the added cost is minimal. In return, you’ll have a decking to make your neighbours green with envy. It’s a simple design choice, but it truly will take the success of the project to another level. As a homeowner making an investment in upgrading the property, that’s the least you deserve.

I hope you have enjoyed reading about getting the most from the installation of your composite decking.

This is such an interesting post Rachel. We have recently bought a new home and some of the decking needs replacing- think we’ll look into it more instead of replacing bit by bit! xx #KCACOLS

We used to have wooden decking and the annual deep clean and new varnish job used to fill us with dread. Would we get a few successive nice days to get at least two coats on? And then once you’ve done it you were trapped in the house until it dried. Composite sounds a great way to reduce that need for heavy maintenance – I’ve never heard of it before! Thanks so much for linking up at #KCACOLS. Hope you come back again next Sunday
